Dr. Tyson has been very active providing professional development for many years, presenting any number of keynotes and workshops to schools and school districts, and at professional conferences and special events. As you explore the sessions offered, you will see that their structure makes them ideally suited for a one or two day mini-conference series at your school or district. However, they can be packaged in whatever ways work best for your needs. Perhaps because of his background as a classroom teacher and school principal, his work focuses on practical practice and is not heavily laden with the latest bandwidth-guzzling buzzR zipping around on the internet today.
Formats
These professional development sessions are typically of two types: keynotes/presentations and workshops. The one exception is the Presentation and Workgroup Session: Leadership Applied: Building Powerful Learning Communities, which is ideally designed to follow a presentation/workgroup format for building principals, district superintendents, and boards of education.
Workshops are typically hands-on learning experiences in which participants are actively engaged at the computer learning the session objectives. Often, when time and space permit, presentations include question and answer interaction. Frequently conferences will feature a "Keynote Follow Up" in which attendees can meet with Dr. Tyson to learn more and ask follow up questions. And finally, a growing number of these sessions have online support materials and follow-up activities for the participants after the sessions are concluded.
Fees
Naturally everyone is interested in knowing Tim's fees. The truth is, he is more interested in making a positive impact on the profession than in making a lot of money and has been remarkably flexible in working within the realities of budget constraints and the variety of needs schools and school districts have. So look at what services you need, and send him an email at the Contact link here or in the left sidebar to design a fee structure for your specific needs.
Search
Finally, you may use the category links in the left sidebar to quickly locate keynotes/presentations or workshops. You may also use the category links to locate sessions by target audience. Most sessions have more than one target audience. You may use the search feature in the sidebar to search for key words or simply scroll down the full list on this page.

Digital natives are living with podcasting, YouTube, TeacherTube, Flickr, Zoomr, RSS, the Social Web, mp3 players, FaceBook, My Space, Blogger, Twitter, Tweet, Skypecasting, Slideshare, photocasting, Second Life, online gaming, (the list could go on and on), and every other "new" and exciting Web 2.0 technology that was "just announced today." But the reality of school is that we work, teach, and learn in the Age of Accountability. This presentation reflects on the continuous partial attention of the students in what is now becoming a hyper connected classroom. What is the teacher to do?! Dr. Tyson will explore learning beyond minimum standards but within the grasp of limited resources.
How can school leadership maximize student engagement and academic achievement? How can leaders encourage teachers and students to collaborate with peers and professionals around the world? In this presentation and workgroup session, Dr. Tim Tyson, former principal of Mabry Middle School, who has been called
This presentation is an excellent first introduction to podcasting. And while the making of a podcast is shown at the end of the session, participants do not sit in front of a computer to actually make a podcast. Rather, this presentation provides a fairly comprehensive overview of what a podcast is, the types of podcasts, the tools that are available (for Windows, Macs, and online) to create podcasts, and the hardware that is typically used in the creation process. Dr. Tyson also presents information about syndicating the podcast series through RSS and how to leverage the
One of the most powerful features of the podcast is subscription: the ability for end users to subscribe to a podcast series and have new episodes automatically delivered to their machines as they are published by the podcast series' creator. The subscription process is made possible through RSS, an incredibly powerful and perhaps little-understood internet technology. All of the podcasts that appear on the
This session is designed to provide teachers who are considering using a blog with insight into extending the classroom into the home and even around the world. This session is not a step by step guide through setting up a blog, but such resources will be presented to attendees. Examples of the different ways teachers are using blogs will be shown, and issues surrounding the initial setup and use of blogging in the school setting will be explored. This presentation is an excellent first step for those who want to begin exploring blogging for the classes they teach.
While not solely for administrators, this presentation is a must-see for principals and superintendents. Dr. Tyson will guide educators through the design and implementation of

According to recent survey data, 9% of online 5th grade boys have actually met a stranger from online! Cyber-bullying is on the rise. Online identity theft is among the most rapid growing crimes in the US. Thousands of pedophiles were identified on MySpace. What are some of the real versus the imagined issues surrounding online safety? How do we effectively teach students appropriate online behavior? What practical resources are available to parents and schools? This session will explore these issues and more.
Imagine having your team's, grade level's, or school's own Oscars! A film festival can electrify a learning environment with unprecedented excitement. However, just giving students a computer and a digital video camera does not a quality product make! In fact, in all probability, few people realize how focused a learning exercise making a movie is. Many who have tried to initiate a project of this type have met with frustration or perhaps ended up with products that did not meet their expectations. Don't dismay! You and your students can do this! Or perhaps you simply want to take the products your students are creating to a much higher level. This workshop is for you, because with projects this complex, systematic training is a must!
While at Mabry Middle School, Dr. Tyson was one of the very first principals in the United States to leverage podcasting as a significant vehicle for school-wide communication and classroom learning. Learn podcasting from one of the school podcasting pioneers. This workshop is an excellent first introduction to actually making a podcast episode. Dr. Tyson takes participants step-by-step through making their first podcast episode. Depending on the hardware available for this workshop in your school setting, participants will either make an audio-only mp3 podcast episode (Windows) or an enhanced podcast episode (Macs). Depending on the time available, online podcast creation tools will also be explored.
We learn best by doing. Perhaps one of the easiest and best ways to begin your journey learning about blogging is to set up your own personal blog and just get started. You can do this for free! In this hands-on workshop Dr. Tyson will take participants step-by-step through setting up a free blog at
