This is the content of an email I received a couple of weeks ago from a teacher, a teacher for whom I have great respect. I find the questions thought-provoking and deep. Do you feel that sometimes you just don't have the time to reflect deeply?! These are worth a ponder or two...
What if we asked teachers . . .
“Does the education you are providing reflect the best educational experience you have to offer? If not, what keeps you from doing so?”
What if we asked students . . .
“Do you have the ability to do your most meaningful learning at school? If not, what gets in your way?
I think it would be extremely interesting to see what people say - how much of the impairments are "real" and how many are "perceived", how much of the impairment is external vs internal. What would the kids say about learning and the hyper-connected world? Too much connectivity, not enough in their learning? Why?
Sometimes I think we glue too much hope for learning to "connectivity." Sometimes the connectivity actually gets in the way of learning as it can ramp up data flow to unprecedented levels, requiring far more bandwidth than we as "mere" human beings, even with our best tools, can ever begin to process with any level of attentiveness, depth, or meaningfulness. The connectivity can become a distraction. How do we prevent that in the learning environment and use connectivity for purposeful achievement?
